Poet Biography

Carla Badillo Coronado

CARLA BADILLO CORONADO was born in Quito, Ecuador, in 1985. She is a poet,
storyteller, filmmaker, and a founding member of a traditional dance group called Tullpucuna (in Quichua it means Colors), which performs with and for indigenous communities. She has made a documentary film on the life of Jaime Guevara, an Ecuadorian anarchist song-writer. Her poems are found in two collections which are being translated into English. She is currently working on an account of her travels in Latin America, the U.S. and Europe, and she writes articles on the arts and culture. This poet’s work was introduced to San Francisco in 2008, when she read at the North Beach Poetry Festival.
