FERRUCCIO BRUGNARO was born in Mestre, Italy, in 1936. A self-taught worker-poet, he began distributing mimeo poems, stories and thoughts at the Porto Marghera chemical plant where he worked in 1965, one of the first in Italy to spread the word by leaflets. His reputation and activities increased through the years, and in 1998 his poems appeared as Fist of Sun, for which he gave a U.S. reading tour. In 2002, the French edition of his poems appeared, translated by Jean-Luc Lamouille; in 2004 a Spanish edition of poems, translated by Teresa Albasini Legaz was published; and Jack Hirschman has just finished another American translation of this extraordinary poet’s work.
