Born in Chengdu, ZHAI YONGMING has been one of the most influential poets of China for 20 years. She is also an essayist, cultural critic and filmmaker. Her books include Women, Above All the Roses, Selected Poems and Songs in the Dark Night. She has read at poetry festivals in England, The Netherlands, France and Italy. Though her name means “eternal light,” her work is characterized by unusual imagery and the dark yin of the feminine.
